A Quote from Mr. August Wilson

Today this section of Jitney caught my ear again. Its fantastic advice that is pure poetry in this play... think about it...

BOOSTER. Fine, I'm doing fine. Just trying to figure out what to do.
FIELDING. If you in the treetop you can't do nothing but jump to the ground. But first you got to know how you got up there. Did you climb up to get some apples or was you run up by a bear? You got to know that cause you might have to start running when you hit the ground.

If you trying to figure out what to do ... you got to first figure out how you got in the situation you in. That's something simple. But you be surprised how many people can't figure that out.

I know I know!!

I have fallen off the blog-o-sphere!!

Things have just kicked into high gear over the last week or so. I still have pictures and stories from the drive home from Goodspeed to share... and I will I promise.

Last week was the Last Garage Hurrah at Signature Theatre's old space. I ran follow spot because they already had a stage manager :(

It was very sad. Many of the numbers in the show were from shows that I had either stage managed or worked on in some way at Signature. All of the performances during the week were fine. It was the last show on Saturday that was sad... it was really the final performance.

During that show I cried during One Red Flower.. it was one of my favorite shows in my career much less at Signature. Then I was fine until Mrs. Mig started to get choked up in her beautiful tribute of an encore... thats when I choked up a second time but I held it together. THEN I saw Ronnie Gunderson with her husband Brain. Ronnie was the producing director of Signature for many many years. In addition to her managerial duties she was a resident stage manager. Out of the 65 productions staged in the Garage I would GUESS that she stage managed 35-40 of them. She had been a real mentor to me when we were both working at Signature. I saw her crying and lost it. We just stood in the space awhile crying and then decided we needed a drink... or two.

After the donor-types left and it was down to the Signature family we went into the theatre and had a blast (or 15 as it were). We spray painted the inside of the building and said our goodbyes with parodies, stories and more paint (there may have been a sledge hammer as well).

To the space that was my artistic home for many years:
"Goodbye old friend. Thank you for nurturing my professional life and launching me into the career I now have. You will be missed and never forgotten"

Closing Night

This afternoon was the closing performance of Meet John Doe at Goodspeed Musicals.

It was a very sad day. This was a fantastic group of people performing a terrific show. One thing I have learned in this business is that those your really care about always turn up again.

I can not wait to work with all of my Doe-nuts again.

There will be MANY MANY pictures posted ASAP... until then... I love you all!!!
